The Castel Nuovo (also called Maschio Angioino) is one of the key symbols of Naples. Built for Charles I of Anjou in 1279, the castle was to serve as the new royal residence. Throughout the history of the castle it has housed many rulers including kings from France, Spain and Italy. Look at the Triumphal Arch at the entrance to match the enormous stature of the castle. The strong medieval defenses complemented with renaissance elements add to the beauty of the castle. Inside the castle is the Civic Museum that houses many paintings, sculptures and historical artifacts for consideration along with many of the significant halls of its palatial history like the Palatine Chapel and Hall of Barons.

This depends on your tastes, but Castel dell’Ovo has the best views of the sea while Castel Nuovo has the most history and iconic appeal.
You can explore a variety of grand halls, a chapel, museum collections, and towers – and enjoy some impressive views over the bay too.
It was a royal residence for kings and queens and all other rulers of Naples - from the Angevins to the Aragonese.
