The Castel Nuovo (also called Maschio Angioino) is one of the key symbols of Naples. Built for Charles I of Anjou in 1279, the castle was to serve as the new royal residence. Throughout the history of the castle it has housed many rulers including kings from France, Spain and Italy. Look at the Triumphal Arch at the entrance to match the enormous stature of the castle.
